at Lyneham)
GV II*
Former stable range, now a roofless ruin with C20 sheds built inside. Possibly
originally a barn, or converted into stables. Circa C18 incorporating C16 material.
Some of the main fabric may be C16. Slate rubble with granite details. Roofless.
Rectangular on plan. The walls at the north end and north west side reduced. The
east side has large, probably reused, granite doorway with moulded round arch, the
roll moulded jambs do not match the arch. Ventilation slits on east side.
The south end was probably built circa 1700 (contemporary with the house) and has
been made a feature with rusticated granite quoins, bond, two storeys, three bays,
four reused moulded granite window frames and central granite doorway with
four-centred arch with keystone, pulvinated frieze, scrolled open pediment and Ionic
half columns.
