House. 1823. By Ignatius Bonomi for London Lead Company, as agent's
house and office, with later C19 addition of porch and right wing.
Coursed squared sandstone with ashlar plinth and dressings; ashlar
porch; roof of Lakeland slate, with Welsh slate on left wing. Main
block 3 storeys, 5 bays, with set-back 2-storey 3-bay left wing and
extension of carriage arch and one-storey, 2 bay service block. One-
storey right extension of 1-bay link and projecting one-bay wing.
Main block has double panelled doors in right end porch with paired
pilasters and blocking course; window inserted in segmental-headed
surround of original central porch with chanelled rusticated
voussoirs, extended to high panelled parapet. Alternate-block jambs
and relieving arches to C20 12-pane windows on lower floors. Top
floor has square 4-pane sashes. Cornice below first-floor relieving
arches; first-floor sill band. Prominent cornice below attic storey.
All mouldings continue around slightly-projecting outer bays. Top
gutter cornice. Low-pitched hipped roof with corniced ridged
chimneys. Left wing has arcaded ground-floor arch and windows;
sashes on first floor of wing and in left extension. Right wing has
window in keyed surround, and ogee pyramidal roof behind parapet with
urn finials.
The house also has historical interest as the principal London Lead
Company building in the area.
