House, now 3 houses. Dated1742 over door; late C19 alterations. Main building
irregular courses of squared sandstone with pecked quoins and tooled ashlar
dressings; extension sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings. Main roof stone-
flagged with stone gable copings; extension roof synthetic stone. 3 storeys,
3 bays, and left extension 2 storeys, 5 bays. Main house (Nos. 4 and 5) has
3-panel door and 2-pane overlight in architrave,under pulvinated frieze
inscribed WE 1742, and cornice; late C19 sashes, above and in outer bays, have
plain stone surrounds, the second-floor windows shorter. Roof copings on
moulded kneelers; end chimneys. Left extension has Cl9 elliptical-headed
windows. Left return of main house has many throughstones. Left return of
extension has C20 glazed porch on stone segmental-headed porch. Rear shows 2
doors to main house in full-width 2-storey outshut under catslide roof; sashes
with glazing bars to No. 6, and doors in first and fourth bays under flat
stone lintels. Interior of No. 4 shows dogleg stair with moulded grip handrail
on column balusters, except for splat balusters to top flight; doors of 2, 3
and 6 panels; L-hinges; roof trusses reported to be upper crucks, but roof
space not accessible at time of survey. No. 6 included for group value.
