of No. 8
II
Tap housing. Circa 1827 for London Lead Company. Sandstone ashlar. Stone
kerbs in front of plain jambs supporting wider lintel, with pediment-shaped
coping set-back slightly, the whole c.0.8 metre high. Stone slab at back of
recess has tap set in top; wood backing above. Two iron bars from stone
slab to kerb form bucket stand. An example of the care with which the Lead
Company provided housing and facilities for its best workers, some thirty
years before public water supply was provided by the local authority.
