2/100 The Barns (formerly listed
13.7.64 under the Parish of Eastcotts)
- II

House. C17, reworked C19. Original block timber framed, C19 additions brick,
the whole roughcast and colourwashed. Clay tile roof. 4-bay 2-storeyed
block, extended C19 by one bay to W, and by 2-storeyed block at right angle to
rear, forming overall L-plan. N elevation : 4 C19 3-light windows per floor,
all with mullions and transoms, 4-centred arched heads, and diamond leaded
lights. Smaller 2-light window in similar style to first floor. Yellow brick
ridge stack of 4 linked octagonal flues. W elevation : 2 2-storeyed canted
bays, both with sashes. Broad sash windows to first floor above doorway.
Tiled gabled porch. Part glazed double doors. Pierced wavy-edged bargeboards
to gables. Red brick paired octagonal stacks. One storey and attics lean-to
addition to rear within angle, of coursed rubble. C20 addition to S block.
