Farmhouse. Mid C17, with late C18 additions and alterations,
and C19 remodelling. Rubble, and coursed squared Coal Measures
Sandstone with ashlar dressings, coped gable to north ridge
and gable chimneys of brick and stone, and a stone slated
roof. L-plan house. West elevation of 2 storeys and 4 bays,
with advanced gabled crosswing to the south end. Doorway with
massive quoined surround and lintel to northern range, almost
at the junction of main range and crosswing. Above the
doorway, a 2-light flush-mullioned window with side-hung
casements. To the north, a further bay, defined by quoins, now
forming part of an extended wall, with stacked window
openings, the lower being an altered 2-light C20 window
beneath a concrete lintel. Above, a 2-light flush-mullioned
window with side-hung casements. Beyond the quoin line, the
character of the masonry changes from thin rubble to coursed
squared work, with stacked 3-light flush-mullioned windows
with slightly advanced heads, and side-hung casement frames.
South elevation remodelled late C19, with central doorway with
deep lintel, and stacked 2-light windows to either side with
C20 casement frames, having a top-hung light. North gable
facing road has a 2-light flush-mullioned window to light the
attic.
