Shown on 0.S map as Burton Farm. Large farmhouse, now house. Probably c.1850,
but on site of earlier farmhouse. Small coursed and squared limestone with
brick dressings including flush quoins, brick stacks, hipped low-pitch slate
roof. The original building is a large L-plan with central stair hall entered
from the east; a lower wing added, back right to from a tight 'V'-plan. Stable
block attached to right now (July 1986) in two ownerships. Entrance front is 2
storeys and attic, 4 windows. The ground floor has, left, a canted bow with
1:2:1 casements under a lead hipped roof, and two 2-light; first floor with four
2-light, and a central hipped 2-light dormer. Return front, left is similar,
2-windowed, with two hipped dormers, and the hipped back end has a 2-light over
a canted bay as at front. All casements are small-paned cast-iron giving the
building a homogeneous and distinctive appearance. Front centre is a wide
gabled porch with side lights covering a 6-panel fielded door under a multipane
transome light. The extra back wing is 2-storey, gabled with a large gable
stack Principal block has a large ridge stack on the south wing. The set-back
slate block to right is hipped towards the house but gabled at outer end. Two
storeys with 2-light casement and two plank loading doors above a 2-light small
pane casement, and two plank doors separated by a 6-pane sash. Interior not
fully inspected. Central stair hall. One large bressumer over fire opening.
