Farmhouse, C17 or earlier, altered, now house. Sandstone random rubble, slate
roof with ridge chimney at junction of 1st and 2nd bays and external chimney
at right side wall of wing. F-plan: 3 bays with projecting porch at junction
of 1st and 2nd bays, projecting wing to front of 3rd bay. Two storeys;
2-storey porch (now buttressed) with slightly oversailing upper floor has
large splayed lintel over doorway (now with glazed double doors) and inner
doorway with chamfered surround at 1st floor a horizontal rectangular window
with double-recessed head and a hoodmould; most windows altered, but 2nd bay
has a 3-light flush-mullion window, gable of wing has windows altered, but 2nd
bay has a 3-light flush-mullion window, gable of wing has hollow-moulded
hoodmould over window on each floor; modern lean-to porch in re-entrant angle
of wing. Right return wall has external chimney stack with horizontal
set-offs carrying a diagonal chimney with moulded cap. Rear: lean-to outshut
has blocked doorway with large lintel; several small windows including 2 at
ground floor with slab cornices. Interior: in 2nd bay, flanking the doorways
to the 3rd bay, are 4 unusual staves or wands c.1½ metres high and 10cm thick,
with star-shaped heads formed of interpenetrating tetrahedrons (purpose
unknown); in 3rd bay a fine moulded Tudor-arched stone fireplace and a
saltcupboard; at 1st floor an exceptionally heavy cambered tie-beam.
