House. Early-mid C18. Roughcast, Welsh slate roof. 2 storeys, with cellar
and attic, 6 bays. Plinth. To left, 2-light flat-faced mullion cellar
window with iron stanchions. In third bay, C20 panelled door below 3-pane
overlight. Sashes with glazing bars to ground floor, 15-pane sashes above,
all in flush wood frames, with stone sills. Between third and fourth bays
on first floor, sundial on raised panel in frame with Baroque top. Stone
gutter brackets. Shaped kneelers, ashlar copings. Brick end stacks,
corniced to left. Right return: side-sliding attic window. The Manor House
was a brewery belonging to the Fryer family from early C19 until 1956. It
was known as the Crown Brewery, having started at the Crown Inn. The
brewery was unusual in making its own malt, the maltings and maltkiln being
the outbuildings to the rear left.
