Malt tower and offices etc. 'PRINCIPAL / CORNER STONE / LAID BY / WILLIAM
SMITH / DEC. 20 1882. Scammell & Collier of Leeds. Rusticated
sandstone with Welsh slate roof, wrought-iron balustrade. lvlalt tower of
7 storeys and 3 bays with ranges either side: to left a range of 3 storeys,
11 bays with single storey, 2-bay end; to right a range of 3 storeys,
24 bays and single storey, 8-bay end. Plinth not continuous. Rear
entrance. Casement windows throughout under flat arches, elliptical arches,
basket-headed arches and round arches, some with keystones. Oriel window to
left range with carved acanthus and floriate decoration and monogram 'W S'
to base. Modiliion cornice to part of left range with fleurons between and
hipped roof surmounted by glazed attic storey surmounted by decorative
balustrade and flag-pole support. Otherwise concealed roofs. At time of
listing range to right-covered in scaffolding and guttered. Interior not
inspected.
