The pedestal on which statue of Dancing Faun formerly stood. c1720,
probably by Nicholas Hawksmoor. Sandstone pedestal, 2.5 metres in height.
Square 3-course base to drum pedestal with moulded base and cornice, and
festoons. Feet of statue and iron bar which formerly held it in place still
in place. Statue lies on grass to north and represents a dancing faun with
cymbals. Copied from a C3 copy of a bronze original, now in the Uffizi
Gallery, Florence. Haskell F and Penny N, Taste and the Antique, 1981, p
