House, now offices. Early-mid C19 with late C19 alterations. Red/brown brick in
Flemish bond, Westmorland slate roof. Regency villa of L-shaped plan with wing
to rear left; 2 storeys, 3 bays. Central door of 6 fielded panels below fanlight
in doorcase with Doric half-columns, frieze and cornice. Flanking, on the ground
floor, late-C19 square bay windows with hipped roofs added and breaking first floor
band. First-floor 4-pane sash windows with flat arches. Hipped roof. End eaves
stacks. The name of the house commemorates the Battle of the Standard which took
place on Cowton Moor, 3 miles north of Northallerton, on Monday 22 October 1138,
between Scotland and England, which was won by England. Included for group value.
