House. 2nd half C17. Hammer-dressed stone, stone slate roof. 2 storeys.
3-room plan with rear baffle entry. South front of 3 uneven bays. Chamfered
mullioned window of 2 lights with small window over. Central bay has double
chamfered mullioned windows of 2 lights (fire-window) and 4 lights (most
mullions removed). Over is 3-light chamfered mullioned window. Outer bay has
double chamfered mullioned window of 4 lights with 2-light chamfered window
over, (most mullions removed). Left hand return wall is blind. Rear has partly
rebuilt wall in watershot masonry and the only entry; doorway with square lintel
and composite jambs with chamfered surround and simple stop. Over is small
light with chamfered surround. To right of doorway is chamfered mullioned
window of 2 lights (lacking mullion). lst floor has one other similar window
and a double chamfered mullioned window of 2 lights (lacking mullion).
Interior: bressumer survives to housebody supporting 2 spine beams. In smoke
bay is early C18 fireplace with square lintel and jambs with cornice. Stone
heck survives. Partition wall between housebody and parlour is of large thin
dressed stones splayed to support ceiling joists of similar character to
Hippins, Blackshawhead (q.v.). Barn attached to right hand return wall is now
altered to form a dwelling and is excluded from the item.
