War Memorial. c.1921 by Brierly and Rutherford (York), sculpture Henry Poole
(London). Tall Portland stone cenotaph surmounted by bronze statue.
Approached up a flight of 3 shallow steps. Plinth, base with bronze plaques
with the names of the fallen. Recessed channelled quoins with long rectangular
panels to each side with bronze wreath to top.
Front tablet inscribed: "THIS MONUMENT COMMEMORATES THE NAMES OF THE MEN OF PUDSEY WHOSE LIVES WERE SACRIFICED IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1919 AND IN THE WAR 1939-1945."
Rear tablet inscribed : "ERECTED ON THE SITE OF THE ANCIENT CHAPEL OF EASE OF ALL SAINTS WHICH WAS TAKEN DOWN IN 1879"
Cornice surmounted by smaller plinth on which is statue of soldier in 1st
World War battledress. Prominently sited at the junction of 2 roads in the
centre of the town.
