House. c1800. Hammer-dressed stone, stone slate roof. 2 storeys. T-shaped
with rear wing. 3-bay symmetrical facade. Channelled stonework with raised
window and door surrounds perhaps indicating it was intended to be rendered
originally. Central doorway with monolithic jambs and margin-glazed overlight.
Flanked by 16-pane sashes with 12-pane unequally-hung sashes above, all with
plain stone surrounds and slightly projecting sills. Coped gables with shaped
kneelers. Rear: 2 finely-dressed lateral stacks flank wing which has 3 narrow
15-pane sash windows with one above middle window and finely-dressed gable stack.
Set in right-hand return of wing tall stairwindow with doorway inserted under.
Left-hand return has 1 1/2-storey lean-to of slightly later date with similar
windows and doorway.
Interior: front door leads into long entrance hall with archway at junction with
rear wing which has cross-passage and simple staircase with stick balusters.
Parlour, to left, has windows with architraves and shutters and moulded plaster
cornice. Parlour chamber has partitioned dressing room with inner glazed
window engraved "John Robinson Wood August 5 1847". One rear chamber retains
its original fireplace with architrave, moulded shelf and decorative cast-iron
grate.
