Includes No.8 Exchange Place. Gates, gatepiers and boundary/retaining walls
enclosing station forecourt, including commercial premises fronting Zetland
Road and Exchange Place, 1873/77 by W. ?eachey, and Cudworth, engineer, for
North Eastern Railway Company. Dressed Blaxter stone; iron gates.
Macadam-surfaced forecourt forms roof of No.8 Exchange Place. Zetland Road
frontage of commercial premises: 18-bay pointed arcade, of irregular-sized
openings, and chamfered one-bay right end. Altered doors and windows;
continuous hoodmould, moulded imposts, and plate-tracery parapet. Frontage
raked down at left to gabled segment-arched pedestrian entrance. Further
left, 3 sets of ornate wrought iron 2-leaf gates, on squat chamfered piers
with granite plinths, to ramped vehicle approach to station forecourt.
Similar 4+1-bay right return, fronting Exchange Place, with right gabled
pointed-arched entrance to staircase up to forecourt.
