Toll Bar Cottage

Toll House. Early C19. Regularly coursed gritstone rubble, rising from a plain
shallow plinth, with coped gables, central ashlar stack, and plain club tiles with
a slate eaves course. Single storey, two bays, with a doorway at the west end,
having a plain planked door below a shallow bracketed hood. Two 2-light chamfer
mullioned windows within flush surrounds beneath hoodmoulds with stops. C19 glazing
bar casements, some with top hung vents. The toll house was formerly associated
with the Nottingham to Newhaven turnpike trust, created by Act of Parliament in
1758.
