House. C16 and early C17, with large C20 extension. C16 wing is timber
framed with brick infill, all much refurbished C20; C17 block at E. end
is of flint with narrow brick dressings and C20 cross-shaped metal
ties. Old tile-roofs, Large chimney stack to left of C17 part, serving
both wings, has 4 diagonal shafts of repointed thin brick; later brick
chimney to left of timber-framed wing. C16 wing is of 2 storeys, the
upper jettied to front, with 2 bays of C20 leaded casements. C17 block is
of 2 storeys with attic and cellar, and is of one large bay with lobby
entry to front of chimney and staircase to rear. Off-set plinth, flush
first floor band-course, chamfered brick window surrounds with straight
narrow hoodmoulds. Gabled front has C20 leaded windows, with French
doors, 3-light casement to first floor, and 2-light attic casement. To
left is a lobby entry with refurbished old board door in heavy C17
moulded wooden frame; 2-light window above. Right side has 4-light
ovolo moulded windows with transoms and leaded glazing, the ground floor
window with sill lowered C20. It also has a 2-light window to first floor
right over a blocked door, and a C20 5-light dormer. Rear gable has 2
2-light leaded windows with ovolo mullions to each main floor, 3 similar
staircase windows to right, unmoulded 2-light attic window, and small
light in apex of gable. C20 extensions to rear of C16 wing are of -
brick, mostly tile-hung. Interior: C16 wing has massive spine beams,
wide stop-chamfered joists, and fireplace with depressed brick arch;
C17 part has renewed moulded ceiling beams, winder staircase, and stone
fireplaces with moulded 4-centred arches and carved spandrels. C17
part also has one moulded doorcase similar to the lobby door but with
moulded stops, and 2 doorcases with slighter, possibly later, mouldings.
Part of this block is chalk-lined.
