Pair of semi-detached estate cottages. Circa 1900, probably by
Romaine Walker for Mr. Robert Hudson of Danesfield. Lower storey
of red brick in English bond with dentil string arched up over doors,
and battered buttresses flanking front; upper storey rendered and
colourwashed; half-hipped plain tile roof; central brick chimney
with off-set cap. One storey and attic, 2 bays. 4-light casements
with wooden glazing bars and leaded top-lights to ground floor, with
chamfered and off-set brick sills and stop-chamfered wooden lintels.
Upper storey has later C20 3-light leaded casements in gabled dormers
with richly carved and cusped bargeboards. Board doors to left and
right, with moulded brick surround and semi-circular brick arches
over painted terracotta tympana of local Medmenham ware. Tympana
illustrate the labours of the months, No.1 showing gathering of
firewood (January), No.2 showing a shepherd and his sheep (February).
Doors retain original brass handles and numbers. These 2 cottages are
part of a set of 12.
