House. Late C18. Brown brick with pantile roof. 2-room, central entrance
plan, with central staircase. Single storey with attic, 2 windows. Board
door flanked by 12-pane sliding sash to left, C20 2-light casement to right,
all beneath painted segmental arches. Worn datestone to left corner
inscribed: "1790" or "1796". Stepped eaves. Tumbled-in brick to raised right
gable . End stack to left. Single attic windows to gables: 12-pane sliding
sash to right, 4-pane sliding sash to left. A good example of a C18
freeholder's cottage, and together with the pair of cottages to the south
(qv), the best surviving in the Axholme area. N J Lyons, Small Houses since
