4/8 High Street Farmhouse

GV II

Farmhouse. Dated 1799, with left gable rebuilt in late C19-C20. Brown
brick in Flemish bond. Pantile roof. L-shaped on plan: 2-room, central
entrance-hall west front with wing to rear left containing kitchen, and a
small half-cellar with small pantry above. 2 storeys, 2 first-floor
windows. Doorcase with large carved consoles bearing foliate ornament,
carrying corniced hood. 6-fielded-panel door beneath moulded lintel and
overlight with geometric glazing bars. 4-pane sashes in original C18 flush
wooden architraves with projecting stone sills and painted rubbed-brick flat
" H ".
arches throughout. Datestone over door inscribed: I T
1799

Stepped eaves. Brick-coped gables. Corniced end stacks. Left return: C20
door in original C18 architrave, cellar window to left with small panes,
12-pane sliding sash to pantry above, large 16-pane first-floor sash in
flush wooden blocked opening to left. Attic board door to front range.
Interior not inspected: rear wing contains pigeoncote on first floor with
full range of nesting boxes.
