Service block, now store, and attached walls. Early C18. Red brick;
slate roof. 2 storeys and gable-lit attic. Dentil brick eaves cornice,
and parapeted gable ends; central brick ridge stack. South-west front:
6 windows; 2-light small-paned wooden casements with segmental heads,
second from left on first floor blocked,left-hand ground-floor of one
light and second from left altered to one light; right-hand ground-
floor window is a painted imitation; segmental-headed boarded door to
right. 2 wooden forecourt gate posts and gate adjoining to right;
square posts with chamfered corners and moulded top. Curved wall
adjoining to left linking service block to Whitton Hall (q.v.); red
brick with stone quoins and coping; boarded door to right; Left-hand
gable ends: segmental-headed 2-light casement and segmental-headed
boarded door to right; pent-roofed wooden bellcote to right of attic
window. Right-hand gable end: segmental-headed 2-light attic casement,
3-light first-floor casement to right and ground-floor 3-light casement;
inserted boarded door to right; stone mounting block adjoining to left
and left-hand corner is rounded up to first-floor height. Piece of
garden wall adjoining to right; red brick with stone coping; boarded
door off-centre to left; ramped return to rear at right. Interior:
ground floor to north-west contains former dairy in one room which has
low shelves around the walls resting on segmental brick arches; lead-
lined cooling tank also, possibly part of former brewing apparatus;
possible former brewhouse in second ground-floor room from north-west has pairs
of ogee-stopped spine beams , depressed-arched open fireplace, and
possible brewing copper with hood (also possibly a washing copper);
C18 staircase; roof: trusses with elbowed principals resting on
tie-/floor-beams, short spurs to wall-plates, and collars; pairs of
purlins. The south-east end of the block is a small cottage. This
service block encloses one side of the forecourt to Whitton Hall (q.v.)
and stands opposite the stable block (q.v.).
