GV II
One of terrace of six houses. Dated 1887. Ham stone cut and squared, with ashlar dressings; plain clay tiles with
moulded ridges between coped gables, brick chimney stacks. 2-storeys 2-bays with dormers of unequal size. Chamfered
mullioned windows, 2- and 4-lights below and 3- and 4-lights above, stepped string course; smaller gable to bay-1
coped, larger to bay-2 has slight overhang with plain bargeboards. Entrance on West gable, which also has a projecting
chimney stack. Interior not seen. A remarkably well detailed terrace with deliberate 'spoiled symmetry', in the style
of Norman Shaw, and prophetic of the early 'Garden City' houses; an early and little changed example. (Nos. 74 to 62,
alongside, a later and poorer, unsubtle copy of the genre, and not included in this list).
