1/111 Butler's Farmhouse

House. Early C19 or earlier. Red brick in Flemish bond, roof thatched.
Rectangular block facing SW, with one axial stack and an external stack at each
end. Full-length single-storey lean-to at rear, with slate roof. One storey
with attics. 3 early C19 sashes of 24 lights in segmental arches, with handmade
glass. One C19 horizontal sash of 12 lights in gabled dormer. 4-panel door.
Interior not inspected. Shown in the tithe award of 1842, associated with a
farm of 27 acres, owned and occupied by Joseph Gurling (Essex Record Office,
D/CT 413).
