Description

ST 79 NE ULEY THE STREET
4/176 (east side)

No 36

II

Detached dwelling. Late C18. Rubble limestone, stone slate roof. Small cottage with
rendered stack to left gable of steep roof, and lean-to extension, left. Main body
two storeys, one windowed, sash in broad surround under stepped voussoirs with dropped
keystone, over central 4-panel door, part glazed, with umbrella hood on decorative
wrought iron brackets. Left of door further sash, and in lean-to extension, sash
under stepped voussoirs first floor, one segmental headed sash and one small
cross-mullion at ground floor. Back has good C18 sash with bars under stone lintol
with dropped key in extension.

This has been two cloth-workers' cottages, now one dwelling, but a good representative
of the architectural quality of some of the village's lesser houses.
