Farmhouse. Probably late C16, partially rebuilt in C18 after fire,
and refronted in C19. Timber-framed square panels with brick
infill to east and west, on plinth of clay stone to west, and over
rubble stone ground floor to east, remainder in brick of C18 and
C19, with tile roof and brick stacks. Main house is L-shape, with
granary and cider house below set back to left with lean-to on
inside linked to single-storey range across back, forming open
central courtyard. Main range of 2 storeys and attic. C19 front
has 3 windows, 3-light wood casements under segmental heads, 2 on
ground floor flanking central 4-panel door leading through to
courtyard. Right hand gable return has very small 4-pane window to
attic wool room with early glass. Square-framed outer wall has 2
similar 3-light casements towards back on first floor, and long
triple window below with small paired casement between each
vertical framing member and moulded wood architrave applied to top
and sides, linking the three. Gable end to south of this range in
brick has chimney possibly of late C16 with twin diagonally-set
square flues, recently repointed. Inner face has small unglazed
timber windows for cheese rooms in attic. Square framing to left
hand return of granary is smaller and on top floor only, above
cider room which still contained much old cheese and cider making
equipment at time of survey (November 1985).
