Very large town house in terrace. Early C18 refronting of C17
house. Coursed and dressed rubble stone on stone plinth, stone
slate roof with 4 stone end stacks with large brick flues with
stepped caps, projecting moulded wood eaves cornice, coped gable
ends. Double range, 2 storeys and attic. Six windows, 12-pane
sashes with moulded wood architraves. Five similar on ground floor
and stone doorcase to left of centre with pulvinated frieze,
moulded segmental pediment with carved oval panel inset. Moulded
square jambs and lintel and double doors of 3 panels each, top 2
glazed, lower 4 fielded, up 3 stone steps, lower 2 being semi-
circular. Two flat-roofed dormers of 6 panes each. On left hand
return of rear range oval stone-framed oculus at attic level, and
remains of similar on right hand return of front range, cut into by
roof of Lime Tree Cottage (q.v.). Rear has 2-light stone mullion
and transom lighting twisted baluster dog-leg stair, and several
blocked up similar window frames. Several panelled rooms of late
C18 work in front, including hallway, most original joinery
remains.
