II
Railway bridge, c.1836. Possibly by Benjamin Green for the Newcastle and
Carlisle Railway Co. Dressed, tooled-and-margined sandstone; arch has brick-
lined tunnel. Both faces similar. Wide segmental skew arch with rusticated
voussoirs. Parapet, above dentilled chamfered band, has paired end piers
which break forward. Late C20 brick coping courses on parapet and iron railings
are not of special interest.
