Country house. c.1800 front range (possibly incorporating older core); rear
additions and internal alterations of 1835 (possibly by John Dobson) and c.1877
(addition of parapets, porch and rebuilding of rear). Squared rubble front
range with ashlar dressings; dressed and ashlar masonry on returns and rear;
graduated green slate roofs and ashlar chimneys. Castellated style. Square
plan. 2 storeys. 5-bay garden front has chamfered plinth, raised quoins at
left and flush quoins at right. Elongated 18-pane sashes on ground floor and
12-pane sashes above in raised surrounds. 2 rainwaterheads dated 1877.
Embattled parapet above string masking low-pitched, hipped roof with ridge
stacks. Similar parapet, roof and chimney details on returns and rear.
Irregular 5-bay right return. One-storey porch with pointed doorway behind
open front on 2 square-plan columns; two 2-light mullioned windows on side wall
and embattled parapet. Scattered 12-pane sashes and a 4-light mullioned stair
window with 2 tiers of transoms. Porch balanced by similar addition at rear.
Left return: canted 2-storey bay at rear and taller projecting tower on centre
with 2- and 3-light mullioned windows under hoodmoulds; corbelled-out first-
floor chimney with 3 octagonal-plan stacks towards front. 2- and 3-storey
irregular rear with 3-storey projecting tower at centre and scattered, mainly
2- and 3-light mullioned windows under hoodmoulds. Late C19 interior fittings.
