Lodge to Madresfield Court (qv). Mid- to late C19. Possibly by P C Hardwick.
Brick with applied decorative timber-framing and tile roof. One storey. South
wall has projecting central gabled wing with a 4-light timber window with
transom. Above is a fish-bone king-post truss which projects forwards and has
a cove below the tie-beam. Shaped bargeboards. The main walls have close-
studding with a central band of cusped cross-bracing forming quatrefoils.
The roof has pierced ridge tiles and clay finials to each gable. Chimney on
ridge near junction with wing has four octagonal brick shafts. The left-hand
gable wall has a mullioned and transomed oriel window on brackets. At the
right-hand end of the building is an open porch under the main roof, with cross-
bracing below a rail which supports barley sugar balusters which return on the
front and rear walls. The central entrance has an arched head with carved
spandrels and keystones. Within the porch is a 3-light window with transom
and a panelled door with moulded surround and strap hinges.
