Barn range with horse engine shed and attached cowshed range. Mid
C19, for Longleat Estate. Rubble stone with brick dressings, half-
hipped Welsh slate roofs. 'L'-plan ranges. Two storey north range
for cowshed has five segmental-headed stable doors and fixed
windows, blocked cart entry on south side facing yard, north side
has some square fixed windows and some blocked. Left return, west
gable has inserted C20 garage doors. Attached at south-east end is
9-bay barn range with English bond brick plinth to weatherboarded
timber framed wall; east side faces outwards with two large cart
entries with double planked doors, shuttered window and octagonal
horse engine shed with open sides, shuttered opening to first floor
and pointed slate roof, throughway to right leads to inner yard.
West side of barn range has pair of double doors and one blocked
entry, both opposing those on east side, lean-to extension with
slate roofs. These ranges enclose yard on two sides, other side
have single storey cowsheds, the south range is altered C19, the
west range is C20; not of special interest.
Interior of barn range has 9-bay roof with curved bracing from tie-
beam to jowled main posts, vertical struts to principals, two tiers
of butt purlins. Ceased to be used in 1969.
