Description

HORNINGSHAM CHURCH LANE
ST 84 SW
(east side)
2/124 Cart shed at Manor House

GV II

Cartshed. Early C19, for Longleat Estate. Coursed rubble stone
with brick dressings, pantiled roof. Open front on overhanging
eaves with 'aisle' posts, right return has blocked opening and
loophole.
Interior has 5-bay aisled roof on jowled aisle posts with collar
and tie-beam; the aisled arrangement is probably to facilitate the
overhanging eaves of the front; south bay contains boarded and
limewashed loft granary with two small square openings to front.
This and the stable (q.v.) are a pair of buildings facing the east
side of the barn range (q.v.) across an open yard.
