Includes Nos. 20 Bolton Road and No. 1 Bath Street. Terrace
of 8 houses. 1896. By Grayson and Ould. Red and yellow
brick with stone and terracotta dressings, hipped tile roof.
One storey with attic, 10 bays, end bays recessed by one
bay, 2nd and 9th bays project, all 4 gabled. Weathered
stone base, terracotta cornice to ground floor, 1st floor
diapering, panelling, pinnacles and coping to gables.
Ground floor has windows with chamfered stone lintels and 2-
light leaded casements. Central bays to 1st floor have
terracotta half dormers with cross-mullioned windows,
crocketed gables with finials, traceried parapets and red
brick aprons. Gabled bays have 5-light double-chamfered
mullioned windows with transoms, centred blind lights with
flanking pinnacles, friezes and cornices; all have leaded
glazing. Entrances have stone surrounds, plank doors with
leaded lights, some have flanking lights. 4 cross-axial
stacks. Returns similar, with dormers. No. 20 was visited
by King George V and Queen Mary in 1914.
