COLESHILL HIGH STREET
SP1889-1989 (East side)
9/19 No.1
11/11/52
GV II
House. Early C18 with mid to late C19 addition linking it to and so
incorporating a late C17 building. Red brick; plain tile roofs; brick stacks. 3
storeys, reduced proportions to second floor: moulded storey strings and eaves
cornice, and rusticated quoins of equal length carried up into a parapet with
moulded coping. 5 bays: glazing bar sashes with exposed sash boxes and flat
rusticated lintels with raised keys containing a leaf motif. 3 stone steps
approach a 6-panel door with rusticated doorcase, including a similar lintel to
those of the windows, and superimposed pilasters and scrolled pediment.
Single-storey, 2-bay extension to the left with large 4-pane sashes and
pyramidal slate roof. This extension links the main house to a late C17
building: red brick; hipped plain tile roof, brick ridge stack. 2 storeys with
first floor band and moulded brick eaves cornice. One bay: glazing bar
casements, the ground floor one has a segmental head, and to the right of it is
a plain door, also with segmental head. Irregular left hand return: 2 bays; the
left hand bay breaks forward under a cat-slide roofline and this portion appears
to be a later addition. Gabled attic dormer to the right. Interior not inspected
but likely to be of interest.
