Road bridge. Mid C16; the bridge was widened towards the west circa 1700 and
this side has been extensively repaired in the C19 and C20. C16 dressed
sandstone blocks and red brick of circa 1700. East side: C16. Six semi-circular
arches of 2 chamfered orders spanning the River Cole. Plain parapet and V-shaped
cutwaters surmounted by square refuges at parapet level. One of the cutwaters
has been rebuilt in brick in the C18. To the right are 3 more semi-circular
arches also with cutwaters; these carry a causeway leading to the bridge. West
side: segmental brick arches with raised keystones and brick dripstones. Squat
sandstone cutwaters. Sandstone parapet band and late C20 plain parapet. 3
segmental brick causeway arches to the left. -
