House. Early C18 with late C19 addition. Brick with ashlar
dressings and hipped tile roof; addition has slate roof; brick
stacks. Early Georgian style. 2 storeys with attic;
symmetrical 5-window range; later 2-window gabled range to
left. Main range has modillioned cornice; quoins; windows have
rubbed brick flat arches with keystones over 12-pane horned
sashes; 3 hipped dormers with 6-pane sashes. Central entrance
has architrave with keystone, plaster surround, frieze and
consoled cornice; overlight with decorative glazing bars and
6-fielded-panel door; 2 large stacks. Addition has coped
shaped gable; pilaster strips with ball finials; similar
windows to main range, but 1st floor has 4-pane sashes; short
screen to left has sashed window. 3-bay right return of main
range similar. Rear similar, but C19 bay with C20 parapet and
French window; addition has architraved French window and
sashes; single-storey projection to right has modillioned
cornice and quoins; 3 blind windows and window to inner
return.
INTERIOR: stair with pulvinated close string, column-on-vase
balusters, square newels, ramped handrail and
bolection-moulded dado panelling; room to left has C17
panelling with fluted frieze and cornice, cupboard with H
hinges and door with H-L hinges; rear room with early C18
bolection-moulded panelling with dado rail, round-headed
niche, Neoclassical fireplace, cornice round beams; room with
parquetry floor, Neoclassical fireplace and cornice; end room
with stop-chamfered beam; 1st floor has some 2-fielded-panel
doors, architraved fireplaces; attic stair as other; C17
fitted cupboard. A good example of an early C18 house, one of
several in the borough, with fine interior features.
