Stable block to Hanley Court, now in general agricultural use. c1750
with mid-C19 and early C20 alterations. Brick with ashlar dressings,
some rubble walling and partly-hipped plain tiled and asbestos roofs.
U-plan; main entrance elevation to south-west, south-east side mainly
occupied by the former service wing of Hanley Court (qv) and north-west
side altered and extended. Two levels. Main south-west elevation:
5:1:5 bays; central bay has large gabled cross-wing, central round arch-
way with Gibbs surround, a round-headed 6-pane window above and a circular
opening in the gable apex; at the centre of the roof ridge is a six-sided
lantern with a square timber base; moulded cornice, domical roof and tall
weathervane. The flanking wings are each of 2:1:2 bays; the central bay
is gabled, breaks forward and has a round archway with a Gibbs surround
and a blind circular opening in the gable above; either side of the central
gabled bay are two blind openings with cambered heads; 2-light C20 case-
ments have been inserted in three of the openings. Interior: roof has
two tiers of trenched purlins and some sling brace trusses. One stable
in the north-west side has retained an original pair of stalls with ball
finial detail and all brass fittings.
