Lock. Circa 1800 with lock gate circa 1981. Stone coped semi-
engineering brick retaining walls narrowed down for length of
lock, lock gate has wrought iron top rail. The lock lies to the
south of the lock keeper's cottage (q.v.) and to north of the
feeder basin (q.v.). The Leek Branch of the Caldon Canal was
opened circa 1801 to take cheaper coal to Leek, John Rennie,
engineer.
