The Poor Men's Hospital for 10 persons, now 5 almshouses. Founded 1662 and
further endowed 1626 by Thomas, Earl of Fauconberg; restored for Mrs Malcolm
Wombwell in 1962 by Trenwith Wills FRIBA. Rubble; stone slate roof to front,
C20 pantiles to rear. Single-storey, with 1 dormer window and bellcote over
porch at front, four C20 dormers at rear in outshut; 3:1:3 bays. Central pro-
jecting porch with segmental-arched ashlar opening with string, imposts and
recarved date 1662 on keystone, and the Fauconberg coat of arms above; 3-light
window with dripmould in dormer, and a lion couchant and a crown on a panel in
the gable, which has shaped kneelers and ashlar coping, and a timber bellcote
set back on the ridge. Ground floor, from left: 2-panel door in triangular-
headed doorway set in square-headed chamfer, 3-light casement window with drip-
mould; door as before; 3-light window; door as before. Shaped kneelers, ashlar
coping. Corniced ashlar stacks at ends and to right of each window on left, and
to left of each window on right.
