Sterne Memorial in 4th

Tombstone c1768, moved to present position 1969. Commemorating Rev Laurence
Sterne, perpetual curate of Coxwold 1760-68. White stone slab with wave-shaped
head. Long inscription about Sterne the writer. The tombstone was erected by
two brother freemasons in Bayswater churchyard as Sterne died in Bond Street,
London. When, in 1969, that churchyard was being cleared for redevelopment, his
bones and tombstone were removed to Coxwold.
