House. Late C18, part rebuilt C19. Brick with limestone
dressings, limestone ashlar rear elevation, pantile roof.
Double-depth plan. Late Georgian style.
3 storeys, basement and attic, 4 storey middle block; 7-window
range. 3 sections marked by pilasters to a cornice and
parapet, first-floor sill band, the left section rebuilt C19.
A C19 Doric portico to the left of the middle block with a
triglyph entablature and cornice, and a semicircular-arched
doorway with a wide door; above it is a full-height bow with
three 6/6-pane sashes, and a central door on the second floor;
central first-floor semicircular-arched stair light with
interlacing glazing bars; remaining windows have cambered
heads with 5 stepped voussoirs to 6/6-pane sashes, plate-glass
to the left-hand block; a doorway to the far left with 5
stepped voussoirs. Steps down to the basement and cellars,
beneath the portico.
Ashlar rear elevation has a central section broken forward
with a full-height canted bay, pointed-arched doorway to the
right, and a good semicircular tented wrought-iron balcony
with batswing brackets.
INTERIOR: C19 glazed screen to a central hall, a segmental
arch to the right with acanthus brackets, a dogleg stair with
slender turned balusters, curtail and wreathed rail, and
modillion cornice; good built-in dresser in the basement rear
kitchen; panelled shutters, 6-panel doors.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: Cast-iron spear-headed front basement
area railings; vaulted brick cellars in front below the road;
attached brick and squared coursed rubble garden wall to the
rear, with a Pennant pointed-arched doorway in the Dove Street
elevation with a small grille to the door.
