Pair of attached houses. c1792. Possibly by William Paty.
Stucco on brick with limestone dressings, party wall stacks
and pantile mansard roof. Double-depth plan. Mid Georgian
style. Each of 3 storeys, basement and attic; 3-window range.
A handed pair with pilasters to a frieze and cornice, and
parapet. Outer doorways have pilasters and imposts, consoles
to pediments, moulded semicircular keyed arches, plate-glass
fanlights and 6-panel doors. Cambered heads with 5-stepped
voussoirs to 6/6-pane rectangular sashes, smaller on the
second floor, and 3/3-pane dormer sashes. INTERIOR not
inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: wrought-iron front area railings and
gates with urn finials curve up Pennant steps to the
entrances.
Planned as part of a uniform development with 52-84 Kingsdown
Parade (qv), and sharing their internal layout. Developed by
James Weekes and Charles Lockier to a design similar to
contemporary ones by William Paty. The plots were sold to
separate builders, and interior details were completed by the
clients.
