Glen Devon Hotel (No.3) and Balmoral Hotel (No.4)

Pair of semi-detached houses, now hotels. Mid C19. Solid
rendered walls. Slated roof. Rendered chimney on party wall.
Single-fronted, double-depth plans; adjacent rear wings,
probably added later. 2 storeys with garrets; No.4 with
semi-basement. 2-window fronts. Rusticated ground storeys
finished with stringcourse, part of latter at No.4 retaining
guilloche decoration. Ground storeys each have wooden canted
bay window with narrow round-headed window at either side.
Upper storeys each have 2 similar wooden bay windows. All
windows have 2-paned sashes, the upper sashes in the bays with
arched heads. Deeply-projecting eaves-cornice, with brackets
at the front. Segmental-headed dormer windows, those at No.3
with 2-paned sashes. No.4 has Doric entrance-porch on right
side-wall. INTERIORS not inspected. The building does not
appear on the Ilfracombe Tithe Map of 1840.
