Row of cottages. Late C18 and early C19, altered. Pebbledash
and cement render over stone, slate roofs. 2 storeys,
1:1:1:2:2 windows to 1st floor. No.5 on left, has C20 door and
margin-glazed overlight in altered stone architrave under hood
on wooden brackets; windows on each floor to left having
projecting stone sills and sashes with glazing bars. Nos 3 & 4
are a reflected pair with doors under shared hood on wooden
brackets, renewed bow windows to ground floor; plain casement
to 1st floor of No.4, casement with glazing bars to No.3. No.2
has C20 door in stone surround under wooden hood on brackets;
boarded doors and cambered arch to vehicle entrance on left;
C20 metal casements with projecting sills and thin surrounds.
No.1 is taller and of later date: altered ground floor with
door and sidelight on right of large uPVC casement; sill band
and thin surrounds to tall uPVC casements on 1st floor. The
range has brick end stacks and ridge stacks on party walls
with the reflected pair. Entrance beneath window to right of
No.1 forms part of No.2 Skelgate (qv). Cottages form part of
important Market Place group.
