Former farmhouse. In 2 main stages, mid C16 and early C17; a lower C18
bakehouse range added to rear. 2 storeys; the parlour cross-wing also has
attics, and the earlier section to left is of one storey with attics. Timber-
framed and plastered. Thatched roofs; the crosswing has cusped C19
bargeboards on C17 carved brackets at the gable-feet. Axial C18 chimney of
red brick. Mainly C19 small-pane sashes and casements. C19 thatched gabled
entrance porch with cusped bargeboards and spike finial; C20 framed and
boarded door. The C16 building is of 2 cells, formerly with a half-hipped
roof at the left hand end. Heavy arch-braced studwork and clasped-purlin
roof; a blocked 4-light diamond-mullioned window and evidence for others.
This became the service end when a higher hall range with parlour cross-wing
were added in early C17. The hall has part of a moulded plank-and-muntin
cross-passage screen; ovolo-moulded main beams with intricate stops, and
chamfered common joists laid flat.
