House and attached barn. House, mid C17, with late C17 barn added
at right angles. House, large dressed gritstone; barn hammer-dressed
stone with dressed quoins, stone slate roofs. House: 2-cell direct-
entry plan with single-storey outshut to rear, 2 storeys. Three 1st-
floor windows. Gabled porch to left has large double tie-stone jambs
with quoined angles. Inner doorway has chamfered surround. All are
double-chamfered mullioned windows; housebody has 4-light window and
2-light fire-window under one hoodmould; parlour has 3-light window
with hoodmould. 1st floor has three 3-light windows. Inserted doorway
(altered to window) right at junction with barn. Coped gable with
kneelers to left. Single ridge stack. Rear has large boulder footings
and three 2-light chamfered mullioned windows. To right, steps down to
doorway set under window leading to barrel-vaulted cellar.
Interior: housebody has stop-chamfered spine beams, floor joists and
bressumer and later C17 flat-arched fireplace with broad chamfered
surround. Parlour has single large spine beam and joists with ogee
chamfer stops. Timber arcade to out shut or aisle has large timbered
tie-beam set with mortices to soffit for close studded wall. Truss
not visible. Barn has coped gables with kneelers and columbarium in
apex. Left return has small doorway with composite jambs. Right
return has square-headed cart entry obscured by new farm buildings.
