Milestone. Late C18. For Durham-Bowes Turnpike Trust. Painted
sandstone ashlar. Square-plan tapered block approx 0.5m high
with rounded top. Set diagonally to road, and partly obscured
by later field wall. BOWES 5 and DURHAM 24 inscribed on sides
facing road, and painted black.
