Railway viaduct over Percy Beck, railway line removed. Opened
1861. Probably by Thomas Bouch. For the South Durham and
Lancashire Union Railway Co. Rock-faced sandstone with
fire-brick arches and ashlar dressings; wrought-iron ties. 4
arches on stone piers and accommodation arch at each end. High
round arches of yellow brick, with shallow buttresses between
accommodation arches and bridge, show 3 courses of brick
voussoirs below rock-faced masonry with cyma-moulded cornice
and rock-faced blocking course continuing round buttresses.
Inner faces of piers have high paired arched panels. Much of
blocking course removed.
One of the few remaining bridges on this line, carrying the
railway line first to Barrass and then to Tebay, the iron
trestle viaducts such as that over the Tees having been
demolished.
