Town house, later 2 houses, now shops. c1730s, converted to 2
houses in early C19, converted to shops later C19. Painted
brick front otherwise stone rubble some painted, some
stuccoed, and slatehanging to left-hand gable; asbestos slate
roof with 2 gabled dormers both with remains of C18 casements;
brick end stacks. Double-depth plan on the left, single depth
on the right with original stair hall behind right-hand room
and service wing behind stair hall. 2 storeys plus attics;
irregular 2-window front has early C19 tripartite hornless
sashes with glazing bars and moulded wooden eaves cornice.
Ground floor has wide passage doorway on the left, with plank
doors with round-arched wicket in right-hand door; small mid
C19 two-light shop window to centre, with pilasters, consoles
and cornice; late C19 shop front, on the right, with
pilasters, consoles and cornice to sloping fascia over slender
mullions. Rear has 2 mid C18 sashes with thick glazing bars
and there is a similar paired sash to stair hall, right-hand
wall. INTERIOR: much of interest from the C18 but partly
vandalised in 1988: fine-quality moulded and carved panelled
plaster ceiling to part of original stair hall; fielded dado
panelling to ground floor, front and left-hand chamber above
rooms; several chimney-pieces and many panelled doors most
with HL hinges.
