Grounds
GV II
Bridge over the path to the Pleasure Gardens. Mid-late C18. Rough hewn rock with
ashlar dressings and red brick. South-west front to pleasure grounds has a large round
archway with large keystone and ashlar impost band, topped with an ashlar coped parapet.
The archway is now blocked. Eitherside are curved ramped walls also with ashlar coping,
which terminate in low square piers. The north-east front to the house has a similar
archway, though now largely over grown with ivy. The archway is now blocked. Inside
is a round arched brick tunnel which links the facades. This building was built to allow
visitors to pass under the main path to the home farm, on their way to the pleasure
grounds, without encountering the dirt and noise of such a public road.
